And as a full disclaimer, yes, it is in fact the only quake game i've played! Though I feel that gives me a unique perspective to better judge the game on its own merits. If the textures were just higher res, it would look great even today. It had cutscenes, but also featured a lot of Half-Life style storytelling. Vehicle sections were a "chore" but still helped break up the pace. Old-school(by today's standards) lengthy SP campaign with cool enemies, weapons, some awesome set piece moments, and a pretty cool(albeit semi-generic) story that I actually found engaging till the end. I thought it had a great art style, like a better lit/colored/paced Doom 3. Nah, its just not what you wanted out of a "quake game", which is perfectly understandable, but if it had been a new original IP without "quake" in the title more people would've appreciated it for sure.
